The Details
The Légal earrings feature a striking white and navy checkerboard pattern, elegantly framed by a floral 24K gold border. This piece is playfully inspired by one of chess’s sneakiest traps—the Blackburne Trap (also known as the Légal Pseudo-Sacrifice or Légal Mate), named after the French player Sire de Légal (1702–92). The strategy revolves around White boldly "sacrificing" the Queen to pull off a checkmate with minor pieces if Black takes the bait. In this design, artist Nomi Bùi reimagines the sacrificed Queen as a blooming flower.
This piece belongs to the QUEEN’S GAMBIT collection—an ode to classic chess openings and the silent intensity of the game. Just like the Queen’s Gambit itself, which first appeared around the late 15th to early 16th century but only rose to true prominence in the early 1900s, this collection celebrates timeless strategy and the beauty of long plays.

- Meticulously crafted from High-Grade White Clay (高白泥)—a premium Kaolin sourced from Jingdezhen. Fired at an intense temperature of 1260°C, the clay transforms into premium white porcelain, achieving exceptional purity, structural strength, and a brilliant white finish. Each piece is then brought to life with a signature glossy glaze from Bát Tràng, Vietnam.
- Because they are entirely handmade, each pair is a one-of-a-kind creation with natural variations influenced by humidity, clay texture, and kiln temperature. Every pair comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, personally signed by Nomi Bui x Leap And Linger!
Materials
- Material: Premium High-Grade White Porcelain Clay (高白泥) from Jingdezhen.
- Finish: Signature Glossy Ceramic Glaze from Bát Tràng, Vietnam.
- Finished with a mother of pearl luster or real 24K gold luster (Depends on the version; details are clearly listed in the description)
- Hardware: Hypoallergenic stainless steel posts, securely attached to the ceramic with UV Resin.
- Included Backings: 1 pair of stainless steel butterfly clutches and 1 pair of silicone backings (perfect for sensitive skin or as a spare).
- Origin: Vietnam.
How to Care for Your Piece
To ensure your porcelain piece lasts a lifetime, please handle it with love:
- Avoid hard impacts: Although high-fired for extra durability, porcelain jewelry can still chip or break if dropped or knocked against hard surfaces (door handles, tables, tile, metal, concrete, etc.). Please handle with care and cautiously clean up any sharp pieces if breakage occurs.
- Prevent scratches: Avoid rubbing the porcelain surface against other sharp or hard materials to maintain its unique raw texture.
- Safe storage: When not in use, store your earrings safely in your Leap And Linger box or a soft pouch to prevent damage or loss.
