The Details
“Nàng” (The Lady) is the first piece in which Nhichancanh challenged herself with the A0 format in linocut technique. As her debut in such a large scale, this rubber block required significant patience compared to smaller works. The piece was created by assembling four A2 rubber plates - each detail had to align almost perfectly, from the sketch to carving and printing stages.
The concept of “Nàng” was inspired by "Jeune fille à l’éventail" of Mai Trung Thu, but reimagined by Nhichancanh: instead of holding a fan, the girl embraces the head of a Lý Dynasty dragon-an emblem of power and sacredness in Vietnamese culture. Behind her, blooming peach blossoms evoke springtime in Hanoi - a season of reunion and togetherness. The carving process alone took over 32 hours to complete, while each print required 20 - 60 minutes, involving color blending, alignment of four blocks, and multiple test prints.
With “Nàng”, Nhichancanh wishes to bring Vietnamese cultural imagery into a contemporary context - revitalizing heritage while honoring the past and expressing a vibrant modern perspective through new artistic methods.

What makes handmade linocut prints unique?
- Handcrafted Process: The original design is meticulously conceived and then hand-sketched onto a linoleum block. Each print is carved and printed entirely by hand. Factors such as humidity, ink application, and pressing technique ensure that every print possesses unique characteristics. These variations are the true hallmark of linocut art, affirming the product's handcrafted nature - no two prints are exactly alike. This stands in stark contrast to mass-produced digital prints.
- Premium Materials: The artwork is printed on traditional Vietnamese Dó paper. This material not only captures the true spirit of the piece but also highlights its delicate, natural texture. The organic feel of the paper fibers and the subtle variations in the print create an experience vastly different from mass-produced prints.
- Limited Edition: We release only a very limited number of these handcrafted prints. Each print is numbered, titled, and signed by the artist Nhichancanh.
- Versatile Decor: With standard dimensions , the print fits easily into frames available at local shops. It serves as a sophisticated accent for living or workspaces and makes a meaningful gift for family and friends on housewarmings, birthdays, or other special occasions.
